Preemption

Federal law gives banks broad authority to ignore state consumer protection laws, and non-bank entities are increasingly trying to obtain similar rights. Other federal laws at times preempt, or are alleged to preempt, state consumer protections. NCLC works to defend the ability of states to protect consumers.
