David Sugerman currently serves on the executive committee of Public Justice and teaches as adjunct faculty at Lewis & Clark Law School. He has dedicated decades of his career to representing consumers in Oregon, focusing on complex litigation, including consumer protection and civil rights class actions, mass torts, and mass arbitrations. David served as lead counsel in Scharfstein v. BP West Coast Products, LLC, a consumer fraud class action for overcharges at the pump that resulted in a $408 million jury trial victory. As part of the cy pres plan, David and his team successfully directed $80 million in unclaimed funds to Oregon Legal Aid and $80 million to fund Oregon Consumer Justice, a new consumer advocacy center.
