Appearing in BBC on Aug. 26, 2025, Miranda Green interviews Karen Lusson, senior attorney at NCLC for coverage of how climate change leads to hotter summer temperatures, breaking global heat records year after year and the health of Americans is at risk as people struggle to afford air conditioning (AC), which can help prevent heat-related illness and death.

“This is a problem that’s not going away.” She notes that first 2023 then 2024 were the warmest years on record for the planet. “And now we’re in 2025 and again and the National Weather Service is predicting extreme heat events, [and] higher than average temperatures.”
