The U.S. Senate will soon consider a “reconciliation” bill sent up from the House that raises prices for low-income and working-class families and slashes consumer protection and social safety nets to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
The Reconciliation bill includes huge cuts to:
- Medicaid, which would increase medical debt;
- Student financial aid and repayment support, leading to higher student loan bills for both future students and people who already have student loans;
- Funding to help families afford to invest in clean energy for their homes and cars, and;
- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Proposed cuts of 70% would gut this financial watchdog and make it easier for banks and other financial companies to break the law and take advantage of ordinary people;
It even contains non-budgetary provisions that could inflict tremendous harm, including:
- Blocking state laws regulating artificial intelligence (AI) for 10 years, leaving states unable to protect kids and teens from inappropriate chatbots or to address privacy, discrimination, false content, and a host of other AI-related risks. A recent Common Sense Media survey reveals strong public opposition to blocking states from regulating AI.
- Giving the Administration the ability to unilaterally revoke non-profit status from organizations without due process if the Administration claims they are a threat.
There is still time to pressure Senators to VOTE NO on this big, brutal reconciliation bill. Find Your Senator. You can also call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m from CITY/STATE. I am calling to urge the Senator to vote NO on the reconciliation bill. I don’t want people in our community to lose consumer protections or get kicked off of Medicaid or SNAP to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
