Repossessions

Every day creditors seize thousands of cars from their owners without court review or the involvement of law enforcement through self-help repossession. The threat of repossession is used to force consumers to comply with claims that may be mistaken, miscalculated, or totally fabricated, and to prioritize car payments above other needs. The lack of due process for car owners and regulation for those doing the repossessing exposes consumers, repo agents, the general public, and even children to needless property damage, injuries, and in some tragic cases, death.
