April 23, 2026 — Press Release

The Trump Administration’s attack on the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a dangerous attempt to retaliate against and silence an organization that has been at the forefront of safeguarding human rights and protecting people from racially motivated violence and hate.

Richard Dubois, executive director of the National Consumer Law Center (NCLC), issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s actions to harass and intimidate the SPLC:

“For decades, the Southern Poverty Law Center has been a leading advocate in the fight against hate, discrimination, violence, and the erosion of civil rights. SPLC is also a valued partner in the fight for economic justice and the dismantling of racist systems and practices that harm communities of color and other groups that have been historically disadvantaged.

“The attack on SPLC is part of a coordinated attempt to unravel civil rights protections at every level. The National Consumer Law Center stands with SPLC. An attack on one member of the civil rights coalition is a threat to every member of the coalition and all people who seek to live free and safe lives.”
