NCLC Announces Hobbs, Rossman, and Greenfield Fellowships Awarded Annually to Law Students Committed to Consumer Advocacy and the Pursuit of a Public Interest Career

BOSTON – The National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) has awarded its annual summer fellowships to second-year law students at University of Michigan, Harvard, and Washington University Law Schools.

NCLC awarded its Hobbs Fellowship to Aanvi Jhaveri, a second-year student at the University of Michigan Law School. “We were impressed by Aanvi’s demonstrated commitment to protecting older adults, low-income tenants, and other vulnerable consumers from financial exploitation, as well as her interest in law reform,” said Richard Dubois, executive director of NCLC. “We look forward to welcoming her to NCLC this summer.”

At the University of Michigan Law School, Aanvi is associate editor of the Michigan Journal of Law Reform. She was previously a legal intern at Bet Tzedek Legal Services in Los Angeles. Aanvi graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, San Diego, with a degree in Political Science.

NCLC awarded its second annual Rossman Fellowship to Joshua Lilly, a second-year student at Harvard Law School.  “Joshua has shown a deep commitment to public interest law and consumer rights,” said Dubois. “He exemplifies the public spirit and dedication that defined Stuart Rossman’s career, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to NCLC this summer in a fellowship named in Stuart’s honor.”

A member of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, Joshua represents low income tenants in housing and eviction cases. He was previously a summer intern at Mountain State Justice in West Virginia focusing on consumer protection issues. Prior to law school, he was a legal assistant in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charleston, W.V., and served in AmeriCorps. Joshua graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University, with a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy.

NCLC awarded its annual Greenfield Fellowship to Rahul Keeranoor, a second-year student at the Washington University School of Law. “Rahul impressed us with his interest and skill in fair and just bankruptcy proceedings, as well as his work helping refugees and asylum seekers,” said Dubois. “We are excited that Rahul will continue the tradition of talented WashU Law students joining NCLC’s summer internship program. We look forward to welcoming him to NCLC this summer.”

At WashU Law, Rahul is staff editor of the Washington University Law Review and captain of the Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Team. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Economics.

NCLC legal interns are assigned to teams of four-to-five attorneys, which focus on litigation, non-mortgage lending (credit cards, auto student loans, and various forms of predatory loan products), mortgage lending, bankruptcy, access to utilities, and racial justice and equal economic opportunities issues. Assignments range from researching and drafting litigation memos and briefs to work on NCLC’s manuals, investigative reports, training materials, policy analyses, and articles.
