“For decades, third party electric suppliers have made millions in profits on the backs of Massachusetts residents, and today represents a major step forward towards providing long overdue protections for Massachusetts consumers, especially low income communities, people on a fixed income and communities of color, who continue to overpay for their electricity because of predatory third party electric supply contracts. Time and time again, this industry has proven itself incapable of reforming its own predatory practices and is fundamentally beyond repair. The third party electric supply industry needs to be stopped once and for all from signing up new residential customers, and this legislation does exactly that.

“We commend Senate President Spilka, Chair Michael Barrett, and bill sponsor Senator Brendan Crighton for their leadership, and call upon the House to pass this legislation and send it to the Governor’s desk as soon as possible.”
