The federal Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP (also referred to as HEAP or MEAP) has provided critical help with basic energy needs during cold winters and hot summers in every state and territory for over 40 years. Cuts to federal staff at the Department of Health and Human Services threaten this crucial program’s ability to continue providing basic energy assistance for millions of Americans. Now is the time to speak up about the importance of LIHEAP. It’s not too late!
The federal weatherization assistance program (WAP) has also lost staff due to workforce reduction efforts at the Department of Energy. Weatherization relies on a network of contractors to fix leaks in walls and ducts, install insulation, repair heating and cooling systems, educate homeowners on how to save energy, and do so much more to ensure homeowners save money through lower energy bills.
We need your help to show the impact WAP has on families and the workforce. Has your family had energy-saving repairs and upgrades to your home through the weatherization program? Are you or a family member a contractor in the weatherization network? Do you struggle to keep the heat and lights on? Tell us your story.
