Washington, D.C. – Today, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) sued Certified Forensic Loan Auditors. According to the CFPB’s complaint, Certified sold consumers worthless “audits” and other documents that the defendants claimed would help save consumers from mortgage foreclosure.
“These so-called loan audits are a scam and a waste of money,” said National Consumer Law Center staff attorney Andrew Pizor. “I’m pleased to see the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau prosecute one of these companies, but there are many more out there. I urge the Bureau and state attorney general offices to pursue such fraudsters aggressively.”
If you have trouble paying your mortgage, NCLC recommends contacting a nonprofit, HUD-certified housing counselor and your loan servicer. If you believe your lender or servicer has broken the law, or if you have received a foreclosure notice, a lawyer may be able to help.
