Robert Hobbs

Senior Fellow

Robert “Bob” Hobbs is a senior fellow at the National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) and served as a staff attorney from 1972 to 1987 and Deputy Director from 1987 to 2014. He testified before Congress on fair debt collection and Truth in Lending legislation and worked with Congressional staff on the development of those laws. He started NCLC’s annual Consumer Rights Litigation Conference and its Fair Debt Collection Practices Conference.

He is an author of NCLC’s Fair Debt Collection and former editor of Consumer Law Pleadings. Bob was on the Board of Directors and the Treasurer of the National Association of Consumer Advocates and is a former member of the Federal Reserve Board’s Consumer Advisory Council. He participated in FTC rulemaking on creditor practices and the antiholder in due course rule. 

Launched in 2014, the NCLC Hobbs Fellowship is named in his honor.
