Consumer Rights
Litigation Conference

October 27-30, 2000 Broomfield, Colorado

More than 400 consumer attorneys and advocates joined NCLC for its 9th annual consumer litigation conference.

Heading the list of outstanding speakers were:  Rhoda Karpatkin, president of Consumers Union; Scott Harshbarger, president of Common Cause; and Richard T. Phillips, former president of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association.   In addition, top consumer law experts from around the country shared with conference participants their expertise and unique insights in many consumer law issues.

In addition to the general conference, 3 mini-conferences attracted a total of 226 participants:  Auto Fraud; Bankruptcy, Still in Transition; and Newcomers Guide to Consumer Law.

During the annual awards luncheon, NCLC presented its prestigious Vern Countryman Award to Richard Rubin of Santa Fe, New Mexico who has been a galvanizing force in shaping the consumer law movement.

Participants completing the evaluation form overwhelmingly gave the conference top ratings.  Below is a sampling of their comments:

“Great Conference!  Good Location!  Excellent Information and Focus!”

“Overall conference was great!!  Good info – great opportunity to network with other consumer attorneys.”

“NCLC continues its long tradition of excellent consumer advocacy conferences.  The number of people now working together to advocate consumer access to justice is so much greater than when I started representing consumers and wonderful to see.  Great agenda choices and keynote speakers (and other speakers too).”

“Excellent conference – the topics covered were right on target!”

“This was an excellent conference, with opportunity abounding to learn a lot of variety of consumer areas.  The task of going back and implementing this new knowledge in practice is daunting!”

“Great information and I can already see new tactics and strategies that I can use in my current cases.”

“The multiple tracks work very well to keep the advance people interested.”

“Sunday lunch speeches were excellent!”
