Development Officer


The National Consumer Law CenterĀ® is seeking an exceptional writer to serve as a development officer in our Boston headquarters. The development officer will identify and pursue opportunities for grant and contract support, including from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. We're looking for a dynamic writer with the skills to translate complex initiatives and programs into clear and compelling funding proposals. The position will report to the director of development and project planning.

Founded in 1969, the National Consumer Law CenterĀ® is a nonprofit advocacy organization that seeks to build economic security and family wealth for low-income and other economically disadvantaged Americans. NCLC is the leading source of legal and public policy expertise on consumer issues for lawyers, federal and state policymakers, consumer advocates, journalists, and front-line service providers.r

Responsibilities


Write high-quality, persuasive letters of inquiry, proposals, and grant reports.

Research grant-making organizations and analyze them to identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs.

Write, edit, and help produce fundraising materials, organizational brochures, and other communications, including the donor newsletter.

Synthesize complex program information into clear and compelling profiles, updates, and other communications.

Help plan and organize development events, including NCLC's annual conference.

Contribute to other NCLC development-related work.

Some travel required.

    Qualifications


    Bachelor's degree required.

    At least two years of related nonprofit experience preferred.

    A minimum of a two-year commitment required.

    Exceptional writing and editing skills and careful attention to detail.

    Ability to communicate effectively with tact, sensitivity, and mature judgment.

    Superb organizational skills, creativity, and self-motivation.

    Ability to successfully manage external relationships and work with colleagues at all levels.

    Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.

    Commitment to working on behalf of low-income populations.

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

      Salary: $39,368 plus a comprehensive benefits package, including generous family medical and dental coverage and other fringe benefits, including four weeks vacation.
